Updates on Blogs and Social Networks

We thought we would condense a bunch of our favorite Blogs and Social Networks sites Newest and Coolest Updates!

Every site changes, whether they add to or take away, the site managers hone, test, and challenge themselves into bettering their particular Blogs and Social Networks sites 🙂

gmail

Here are some of the newest changes we found on:

Google’s GMail:

Picasa, YouTube, Flicker, and Yelp previews of photos, videos, and reviews instead of  just links, directly in your email!

You’ve all heard the joke “You Can’t “Unsend” an Email?” Well guess again! Google has ursurped the impossible yet again with an option for giving yourself a grace period after clicking that send button 🙂 Edit and resend.

GMail offline! Yes, use GMail even when you are not connected to the net 🙂 and with Tasks Mobile you can take it all with you.

There are (at last look:) 42 current, crazy, lab experiment choices. Something for everyone to try.

Utterli:

The name is fairly new as they were originally Utterz but now Utterli. The same awesome podcasting social network!

The newer happenings at Utterli are a discontinue of the Free International Dial in numbers. Utterli is currently working on a solution at present but this feature has come to be too expensive.

A Desktop Application is now available on Ubuntu if you use the Ubuntu Amazon Services.

Group Calling and Video Processing have also been introduced this year.

Trusera:

Trusera is a brilliantly designed Health Social Network in need of partners. In our search for Haelth Social Networks, we found no real competion here with Trusera, so investors Take a Peek 🙂 At present, what are the investor options? Here is an option 🙂

YouTube:

YouTube in High Definition! Yes, watch your favorite videos in HD!

Try out Collaborative Annotations for your videos. YouTube launched annotations in June of 2008 where you can add text, blurbs, speech bubbles to your uploaded videos. Now, you can invite anyone you like to create speech bubbles, notes, and spotlights on your videos too 🙂 Find this info on the home page of YouTube in the lower right hand Collaborative Annotations link (this takes you to YouTubes blog site:)

Be crowned “Best Dunker” with your presented video. YouTube Slam Dunk with a judging panel of NBA All Star and Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Bosh, Fab 5 Member and NBA Pro Jalen Rose, and the Worlds hottest dunk crew, Team Flight Brothers.

Watch video on Windows Mobile and Nokia S60 phones. While YouTube has been available for many mobile phones for over a year, you can check the newest additions at YouTubes Blog.

Check out the Recent Updates post 3/26/09 at YouTubes blog for more 🙂

wavecritter-zimbio

Zimbio:

Named as one of the fastest growing sites by Nielsen 🙂 The updates at Zimbio are really a shedding and spring cleaning of some features that took up more time and space really, and not as effective as the resources spent. Even the greatest of ideas get pruned for the honing of perfection 🙂 Check out the updates list for Zimbio by visiting their Company Wiki.

Google Services for Blogs and Social Networks Users

From Googles specific searches like the Blog search, Patent search, News search, Products search, Scholar search to find scholarly papers, Image searchMusic, Maps, Finance, and Book search to an even more honed in Custom Search that you can design to fit your specific needs, Google has the search engine side of the Internet quite covered 🙂

Google also has a Google Groups for you to set up or join any group on any given topic. There is Google Video and YouTube for all of your video viewing categories and needs. Google Transit is a newer service that gets you around with Public Transportation! If you don’t know a thing about Public Transportation in your area but would like to start using it, begin with Google Transit 🙂

One of the very newest innovations of Google is the Google Moderator (you may not have even noticed this as it is so streamline)  Collaborative Q and A for group events, vote on questions and post suggestions of your own. Here you can ask a Google Engineer, World Leader, your Government, or a Google Moderator. The use of this service by Google users will help improve Google Moderator as it has not yet graduated to completeness from the Google labs 🙂

GOOG411 is a search for local businesses from any phone, for free using your voice 🙂 1-800-GOOG-411

Google Labs is Googles Technology Playground 🙂 The ideas that remain here aren’t quite ready for prime time like Google Talk Labs Edition are set in the Google labs area for Google users to view and check things out before they are released as a complete Google Service. You can download the new Google Talk Labs Edition and the new features of this are the desktop notifications from GMail, Calendar, and Orkut (Googles Social Network). There seems to always be something new and cool going on in the Google Labs so stop by often 🙂

Some companies are known for their surface knowledge of many things instead of molding what they know into perfection. Even individuals wish to delve into and become involved in multiple exciting things at once. A “Jack of All Trades” instead of “King of One”.  While it is an inert human drive to want to experiment and discover or dabble in various interests, inevitably, one major calling should prevail.

If the calling is a positive addition, there is a passion for it, and the individual or entity is actually good at it or can preform the task well, then this could be considered a calling.

Google seems to know this reality and wants to keep their calling and remain “King of One”, the search engines, and not be known as a dabbler of much. Individuals can take the wisdom of Google and apply it to their lives as well. Becoming a King (or Queen) of one thing, focus on their best, instead of being Jack or Page of many.

Blogs and Social Networks Google Services

goog

With Google Labs holding all Google’s Test Programs, I believe that Google is totally focused on perfecting what they have already, rather than spending the bulk of their time getting further into innovation. I see that adding to and enhancing what they do, instead of beginning a separate new project has propelled Google to the top 🙂

This is a very wise standpoint in life for individuals even, to focus on your calling and to be what you are good at. Not staying at the surface with the knowledge of many things, but to hone your talents in one arena and be King of that. Much like Google has become King of the Internet Search Engines.

Google seems called to to do this, they are great at it, very passionate, and they focused on the search, aspects of the search, and what other ideas that work hand in hand, together to enhance the search engine process. Google has many services, all connected to help create and add to their massive search capabilities. Ideas that work alongside the search engine foundation.

While Google Lively was an incredible project, this site was a bit separated and removed from the rest of the mass of services as it did not enhance or flavor the prime focus of the search engine. It was more of a stand alone “new deal”.

Let’s get a visual with this and say I have an intense set of Lego blocks and then I get this equally great set of KNex blocks (while each set is brilliant by itself, working together is a bit difficult, not impossible, but difficult). Having two Lego block sets or two KNex blocks sets will create many clever things, but all working together, built from the same core material, and acting to enhance the whole. Google is staying with the one type of block and focusing it’s energies to relate to (first and foremost) the search engine. To feed the master program with even more relevant terms, perfecting and enhancing it’s service to the Internet.

Google has specific search engines like a blog search, book search, news search, and patent search to assist in the faster location of individuals needs by sifting into categories to weed through the unnecessary items even before the search begins.

Google Groups area allows a space for users to create a site for like minded individuals or to join in discussions with groups already formed. There is literally a group formed on almost every topic imaginable, over a million separate groups for you to meet other group members.

Google Video and YouTube are Google’s video search and hold areas for users to upload, view, and share video entertainment of all types. Again, the specific search engine strictly for video is available through the main site.

Google has even created an area where all users can invent their own search engine! Design which sites are to be searched through your own search engine. This is most handy for organizations, groups, and especially for learning facilities or parents who would like the students to be able to use a proper search engine, but wish to regulate which sites or search terms are able to be located.

There is a Calendar, photos with Picasa, Google Docs for documents and presentations, Google Reader for your blogs and social networks and other sites for bookmarking, and iGoogle to keep your information all together on one site. To access the entire listing of all the services is quite easy, along the top right hand side of the Google site there is a listing of Web, Images, Maps, etc. The last link is “more” with a dropdown menu and another list ending with “even more”. Click on that to visit the entire list of services page. This huge hub page of holds the active services and the testing ideas as well under “Labs”.

Visiting the Google Labs section is quite interesting and a whole lot of fun. This allows it’s visitors to “play” with it’s newest designs before they are released as a set in stone service.

Some of the recent graduates of the Labs are very handy. Suggest is the newest search feature where Google gives suggestions while you type in a search term or keyword in the form of a dropdown as you type into the search bar. This addition gives you a shortcut to longer search terms and also may expand on your original ideas to take you where you need to be faster.

Google Transit is another recent graduate of the Labs to allow users to become much more acquainted with the public transportation in their cities and areas. Many people would like to use the public systems in the towns and have no idea where to begin. Transit is your answer.

GOOG411 is Google’s over the phone search for local businesses. Yet another free service to search for businesses in your area, but this time through the phone lines.

Chrome has been release from the Labs earlier than expected and is Google’s Browser extraordinaire. A free browser for Windows Vista/XP SP2. Chrome is a browser that combines a very simple design paired with Google technology to make the web safer, faster, and easier with an all in one box system. The instructional videos here on the Chrome page will get you ready in no time and gain you a thorough understanding of the newest service, the Chrome web browser.

From the Blogger updates of import and export abilities along with the future posting and newest additions of Reactions and other Google gadgets, to the management of your health files all in one place with Google Health, I would be surprised if you were searching for holding, filing, searching, or collection answers, that one of Google’s Services would not complete the puzzle for you.

Blogs and Social Networks Search Engine Land

Search Engine Land

Search Engine Land

This is a site with condensed news and information ( highlighting, it seems, the master of the searches, Google ). Find the latest, most up to date topics of interest where search engine optization and other related announcements are posted. News from Yahoo, Google, Microsoft, Ask, AOL, and more. The site is easy to navigate with tabbing across the top for the major topics and an “on site” search box to look up any topic of searching the Internet you can think of. Subscribing to the newsletter (about half way down the page on the right) will keep you up to date or subscribe along the top to the RSS Feed or add to Bloglines, Netvibes, Google, Windows Live, or My Yahoo.

Googles Language Tools Site is yet another handy site of Googles for the World Wide Web to use :)

easy. My friend Hank Dunckel just said he spoke with a French speaking
man for over an hour using this. Hank doesn’t speak a word of French
and the other man does not speak English, no worries :)
